6000 jobs under threat as UK car plant ‘at risk of closure’

Speculation is rife after Unite joint leader, Tony Woodley revealed that a "major UK car plant may be forced to close within days unless it gets urgent state aid"
He said the government had to act to prevent what he described as "a catastrophe".
The union says it would have been irresponsible to have named the company but also irresponsible not to have mentioned its plight.

Anyone have an opinion on who the beleagured car maker might be?

Vauxhall Ellesmere port, GM have already announced “plant closures in Europe” and everyone knows they are in big trouble

    Nissan?…they’re in the sh1t

  3. Bob Owen says:

I’ve got a mate who works at Honda in Swindon and every Monday he goes to work wondering whether the gates will be locked…so it could be them….also their F1 team is about to be bought out by Branson.

Whilst these comments have certainly brought the plight of the motor industry to the forefront of everyones mind. One must also wonder is this the unions holding a gun to the governments head. I support Richard Branson and think that the car industry should be allowed to go into free fall and bottom out, after all they have made plenty of money in the years gone by.

If I was a betting man I would say Nissan Sunderland, all the workers there are on 90 days notice of redundancy even though the statement issued by the company says 400 temporary workers and 800 permanent staff.
