That why I bought this one, good looks, value etc: but just lost loads of money! nearly did the same on a 407 Coupe as my own car, but then came to my senses in the nick of time, No, stay away and buy german or japanese, French is fine until it go's wrong (which it will) and then its big bills time !

Problems with ECU's and the heating/ventilation seems to be very common on French cars. It just so happens that they are two of the most expensive to replace. Do you think that this may just be a 'cash cow' for Renault/Citroen/Peugeot? I was goin to buy a 407 cos they're cheap and I always quite liked the way they looked, I won't now though

Trust me to put a spanner in the works but I cant get enough Laguna 1.9 DCis Estates, and if they come in "Privilige" spec with Factory Sat Nav and panoramic Roof's they virtually walk off the forecourt ! mind you, i prefer 60,000 miles plus examples, they tend to have had the "Big Money" already spent on them! plus i have an absolutely brilliant "Tech Guy" with more computers and diagnostics than N.A.S.A. who charges me a very reasonable rate, other than that, I agree, most French Cars nowadays are rubbish, more so when they run out of manufacturers warranty, got my fingers burned just last week on a 2005 Peugeot 407 "Senith" ltd edition, £1,500 just to get the Ventilation / Air Con system working correctly, rear window ECU's U/S another £450 each side !! back in the Auction, but thats another story...............................................................................................

I think you are being very unfair by singling out the Laguna, as i have found to my cost that the Scenic is equally as bad if not worse, i have an 04 Scenic FRSH 37000 miles Mint Condition inside and out, unfortunately the heater blower motor wont work on speeds 1 and 2 its a very common problem (see google) its only a resistor, the resistor would cost a few pence to buy but apparantly to get to the blower motor and fix it you have to dismantle the dash board, now that wouldnt be too bad however the air con doesnt work either, we regassed it just to make sure, but it still didnt work, my £6000 Snap on diagnostic scanner will only bring up an undocumented code so i took it to my autoelectrician who has the renault software, this showed a pressure switch fault, £89.00 for a switch later same fault still showing so he thought it could be a wiring fault, 2 days later with all the wiring checked still no other fault found he suspected the ecu was faulty but couldnt be 100% sure (this controls all the engine management system) so you can imagine the cost as it also has to be reprogrammed, determined to get the car fixed i took the car to the main Renault dealer who i have to say are fantastic the staff are incredibly nice and helpfull, boy must they go home stressed out, needless to say they told me their diagnostics showed the pressure switch so i am still none the wiser, i have had the car for 8 weeks so far and i am no nearer to solving the problem, i have advertised the car cheap without air conditioning, but if you ever see another Laguna, Megan or Scenic on my web site please come and blow my brains out it would be kinder than it would be to let me suffer
