Renault operations director pessimistic about recovery

The end of the economic crisis is not yet in sight, and 2010 is set to be an even more difficult year than 2009 for the automobile industry.

That is the view of Patrick Pélata, operations director of the Renault Group and chairman Carlos Ghosn's right hand man, in a wide-ranging interview with Fleet Europe.com.

He said: "For the management of a company in the middle of a period of crisis, it is always healthier to plan for a negative rather than a positive scenario.

"And we also believe that the effects of premiums paid for scrapping old cars in Europe are going to die down, and that this will have consequences on our 2010 sales figures, because in our opinion the crisis will be far from over by then."
