Vauxhall Astra is the UK’s favourite used car

The Vauxhall Astra is the UK’s favourite used car according to Motorpoint. The perennially-popular small family car, which arrived on our roads in 1980 with the current version (the mark 5) being the clear winner in terms of used car sales between July and September 2009 at the car supermarket giant, which sells 44,000 new and used vehicles a year.

And, in more good news for the beleaguered manufacturer, another of its cars, the Vectra, also featured in its top three biggest selling used models of the last few months. The Ford Fiesta brought up the rear.

Vauxhall was also the clear choice when it came to the most popular MPV, with the Zafira streets ahead of its nearest competitor, the Ford C-Max and Seat Altea XL. The Land Rover Freelander remains the most popular 4 x 4 followed by the Nissan Qashai and the Kia Sportage.

When it comes to the premium end of the market, Saab walked away with the top honour, with the 9-3 Saloon the favourite among customers nationwide. The Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4 came a close second and third.

Motorpoint continues to defy the downward trend among car retailers and remains on course to repeat its achievement of selling a car every 4.48* minutes over the financial year across its five sites – Burnley, Derby, Glasgow, Newport and Peterborough.

Says David Shelton, Managing Director of Motorpoint: “It’s great to see that Vauxhall remains such a favourite among the car buying public given the manufacturer’s well-documented problems.”
