Toyota is now considering a recall for the Corolla, the world’s best-selling car.
It has said that so far no decision has been made as it is still looking into complaints about the power-steering on the Corolla. The Corolla has not been sold in the UK since early 2007, when it was superseded by the Auris.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that it had received complaints from drivers reporting difficulties with steering on 2009 and 2010 Corollas. Many of the drivers who complained said their cars wandered when driving straight on highways – making it hard to stay in lanes.
The agency said it would determine if a formal safety investigation is warranted but also stressed that it was standard procedure to review the tens of thousands of driver complaints they get every year on a wide range of vehicles.
The carmaker said potential complaints with the Corolla in the US currently numbered less than 100.
Akio Toyoda, the company’s president and grandson of its founder, has written in an opinion article in The Washington Post today that Toyota ‘has not lived up to the high standards you have come to expect of us’ and called the recent spate of problems ‘the most serious’ the company has ever faced.
‘We fully understand that we need to more aggressively investigate complaints we hear directly from consumers and move more quickly to address any safety issues we identify,’ Toyoda wrote.

Toyota & Honda dropped the ball on handling the recalls , they should have came forward with a full disclosure. Instead of waiting for a huge media blitz and tons of public pressure. But Toyota & Honda are not alone , I never seen so many car companies having recalls all at the same time.
