VW sold in excess of 3.5 million vehicles to buyers worldwide in the 1st half of this year, CEO Martin Winterkorn said.
January-to-June sales topped those of the same period last year by about 15%, Winterkorn further revealed.
The group's core Volkswagen brand had sold significantly more than 2 million cars worldwide, he added.
He reiterated the Volkswagen Group, consisting of the Audi, Skoda, Seat, Bentley and VW brands, will see record car sales this year.
"But this will not be achieved easily," the CEO said. "Especially in Germany, business will become significantly harder in the second half of the year."
