BMW has surpassed August's global sales volumes for its core brand not just when compared against 2009 but also for 2007 and 2008, underlining just how strong the recovery in the premium car market is.
BMW has reported that it sold more cars in China in the 1st 8 months to August than it did for the entirity of 2009.
Worldwide sales of BMW brand vehicles rose 16.3 % in August to around 88,000 units.
This brought the cumulative year-to-date total of BMW brand vehicles to 775,262 units , a gain of 14%.
"We are seeing a stable upward trend and are gradually regaining the level we had prior to the economic and financial crises," BMW group sales chief Ian Robertson said in a statement.
"For the first time, it (the BMW brand) also delivered more vehicles than in August 2007 and 2008," he added.
